An Overview of My Participation in
2023 CCU FLLD Camp
This July, a group of students from CCU FLLD held a summer camp for high school students all over Taiwan. When I was in high school, I had good memories of attending summer camps, which is why I decided to give being one of the staff members a try. The team was divided into several groups to ensure the event ran smoothly, and I participated as a member of the activity group. Although a four-day camp doesn’t seem to take up a lot of time during the summer vacation, the preparation for it lasted the whole semester.
In the activity group, we are in charge of planning and designing wild games. For me, I’m assigned to brainstorm about a series of games related to water and the mystery-solving activity. Every week, we had to have a meeting with our group members and have several small meetings with our partners. To be honest, it was tiring. Although the progress we had to achieve every week wasn’t much, some of the problems could only be noticed when the whole planning was done. For example, the mystery-solving event was a complete mess on the first rehearsal. Initially, we thought that it should be like a haunted house in an amusement park, which aims to scare people. Not until it was one month before the camp that we realized we were doing the whole thing wrong. We were supposed to create a fake mystery case with scary factors for the high schoolers to solve. Fortunately, we had a plan B and our team members helped a lot. Words cannot describe how tiring and nervous at the same time at this preparation stage, some of the members even quit before the camp. But in the end, it is all worth it when we see how the participants are enjoying the games.
The Activity Group (ˊᗜˋ*)
Despite the exhausting part, there are still moments of happiness and gains for me. After several revisions of the preparatory work, there will be a great sense of achievement as the plans you imagine in your mind finally come in reality. Furthermore, as I recall, what I missed the most were the times when me and my partners having discussions. I like the atmosphere of everyone is working hard on the same project and hope it goes well. Besides, half of the members of the activity groups were not in the same department. As the camp comes to an end, we probably will not see each other at school unless we hang out on the weekends. It is a pity that all good things must come to an end, yet the limited time made me more cherish the moments we spent together.
If you are considering whether to participate in a summer camp as a staff member, don’t hesitated! I surely recommend to try it for a least one time. Why not create some memories for your university life that would not repeat again?
