Almost every month, Family Mart updates their soft-serve ice cream flavor. It has become one of my hobbies to collect all flavors of Family Mart’s soft-serve ice cream, except the weird ones. For example, I didn’t wanted to try corn soup, as I’m not that curious about how icy corn soup would tasted like. Despite those that sound strange as a ice cream flavor, the custard apple flavor and the white grape flavor aren’t for me, too. As I recall, the custard apple one tasted like toothpaste, so I only took a bite. Reviews about the white grape flavor are extreme; people who loves it loves it, and people like me can’t even finish one serving. While it isn’t inedible, it tasted like the candy “Hi-Chew” and should probably stay as a candy flavor. I feel that Family Mart should improvise all the fruit flavors, lots of them are too sweet or didn’t stand out as much as the other categories.

On the contrary, the tea catogories and the chocolate flavor are the best! I especially love roasted green tea and wheat(焙茶麥麥) among all the tea flavors. The tea’s fragrance spreads out in your mouth after the first bite, and when you finish your ice cream, you feel the pleasant aftertaste of wheat. It is a lightly flavored ice cream, and I believe that you won’t feel cloyed after having the whole serving. Roasted green tea and wheat is nice, yet it still can’t compete with my all-time favorite: chocolate. Back in the month when chocolate flavor was available, I went to Family Mart for it every week! The balance of sweetness and bitterness was harmonious, not overly sugary nor overwhelmingly bitter. It tastes rich, and no one can resist taking one bite after another. If you are also a big fan of chocolate, I highly recommend trying it out if they make a comeback with this flavor!
