A Trip to Kaohsiung

A few days ago, while scrolling through the album on my phone, I stumbled across some old photos from February. They were pictures from a three-day trip to Kaohsiung with my friends. Looking back, from planning the trip to actually going on the journey, were truly unforgettable memories.

Deciding our destination was our first step. Since none of us had a car license, we plan on visiting a city that has a MRT system. That narrows down our choice to only Taipei and Kaohsiung. Considering Taipei is always rainy in the winter, we ultimately decided to go to Kaohsiung. So, where in Kaohsiung should we go? We went online to find attractions that we are interested. Additionally, a friend of mine who is studying at a university in Kaohsiung recommended some spots to us. After few weeks of organizing and preparation, the day of our trip finally arrived.

Our first stop was Shou Shan Zoo. I haven't been to a zoo for a long time, so I was genuinely excited to be surrounded by numerous kinds of animals.  What still surprises me the most is the high-pitched noises of the peacocks. I didn't know that peacocks "meow!" After spending hours at the zoo, it was dinner time and the zoo was closing, so we headed off to Liuhe Night Market, one of the oldest and most popular night market in Kaohsiung. While it might not have been the largest night market, for our sore legs, one street is the perfect size for us to wander around without getting too tired. I particularly enjoyed the stinky tofu(Even though I usually don't eat stinky tofu!), and my friends like the papaya milk the most.

The second day was the best of the three. In the mornig, we went to the Pier-2 Art Center. We took lots of nice photos there and had a great time, though the only drawback was the expensive food; one cheese sandwich and some fries cost 280NT dollars! Next, we traveled in a ferry to Qijin Island. Fortunately, I didn’t get seasick. We splashed through the waves at the beach of Qijin Main Swimming Area. After that, we climbed the Cihou mountain to visit the lighthouse. On the mountain's peak, we saw the magnificent view of the sunlight sprinkling on the sea. We then rushed to Sizihwan Bay to catch the sunset. We made it on time, and the hues of orange and red in the evening sky provided a perfect ending for the day.

As a wrap-up event before heading back to Taichung, we went to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi. At the time, there was an Attack On Titan exhibition held in this department store. My friend May and I had a keen interest in this anime, so we decided to buy tickets and take a look. While we enjoyed the exhibition, my other friend, Anita, went shopping on different floors of the building. After admiring the comic manuscripts, I bought a deck of poker cards with every character's drawing as a souvenir.

For me, I felt very satisfied at the end of the trip. Although this isn't the first time I've been to Kaohsiung, it was the first time I had gone on an overnight trip without my family or teachers. From making the schedule to the trip itself, I really cherished all the experiences we had together. I can't wait to travel again with both of them!
